Color:

Traditionally graded from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow/brown), the absence of tint denotes extreme rarity. While natural diamonds are graded step-by-step along this continuum, modern laboratory-grown stones are engineered to sit almost exclusively in the highly desirable, near-colorless range.

Clarity:
The Signature of Growth

Diamonds carry unique internal marks (inclusions) from their growth process. The clarity scale ranges from Flawless (FL) under 10x magnification to Included (I). In luxury curation, the focus is on "eye-clean" stones—typically VS or VVS—where internal characteristics never compromise visible beauty.

Carat Weight:
The Measure of Presence

Carat denotes the precise weight of a diamond, not its physical dimensions. While larger natural stones are exponentially rarer, laboratory-grown diamonds also increase in value as carat weight rises. Across both origins, carat weight must always be balanced with Cut; a masterfully cut one-carat diamond will routinely outshine a poorly cut stone of twice its size.

GIA’s Descriptive Terminology for Laboratory-Grown Diamonds

Aligning with modern market dynamics, the GIA utilizes a specialized Laboratory-Grown Diamond Quality Assessment. This framework groups stones into clear, streamlined descriptive categories rather than traditional natural alphanumeric scales:

Premium: The pinnacle of laboratory-grown luxury. To earn this title, a diamond must display exceptional, near-colorless beauty (equivalent to Color D–H and Clarity VS or higher) combined with a Very Good to Excellent finish, polish, and symmetry.

Standard: Beautiful stones offering excellent design versatility, falling into a slightly broader color and clarity range (equivalent to Color E–J and Clarity Very Slightly Included) with a Very Good finish.

No Designation: Any laboratory-grown stone falling below these strict criteria receives no quality designation from the GIA, a threshold MY DIAMOND strictly avoids to protect your investment.

Advanced Grading Dynamics

To distinguish a fine diamond from an uncompromised masterpiece, laboratories evaluate subtle structural details:

Symmetry: The exact alignment and proportion of the diamond's facets.

Polish: The mirror-like smoothness of the diamond’s surface finish.

Fluorescence: A stone's reaction to ultraviolet (UV) light, primarily observed in natural diamonds. While mild fluorescence is often imperceptible, strong fluorescence in colorless diamonds can occasionally induce a hazy appearance, impacting both brilliance and valuation.
